Life and Wellbeing

Wellbeing

As a school, we believe it is important for all of our students to receive a rounded education, one that not only teaches the academic side of things but one that focusses on life beyond school.

Life lessons are an opportunity for students to think about and prepare for this.  We incorporate a range of practical skills such as:

  • planning, budgeting, shopping and cooking a meal;
  • understanding bus and train timetables and then catching a bus or train;
  • home life skills like using a washing machine, making a bed, sewing, cleaning and hoovering.

We also prepare students for post 16 life by writing CVs and cover letters, role playing interviews and making phone calls.  We also have a section on money and budgeting where students find out about banking, saving, mortgages and how to balance a budget.

In the future we hope to include some more practical events too with students building flower planters and learning how to put up shelves, there may even be some wall painting tips too!

Wellbeing

As a school we are highly focused on the wellbeing of our students and for them to learn new skills, be physically active, maintain healthy relationships and look after themselves; all of which lead to happier students and a more positive learning environment.

Within wellbeing lessons for all year groups, our aim is to help promote a calm and enjoyable lesson which covers many aspects within wellbeing. This year students will engage in mindful art activities ranging from drawing, painting, outside activities to seasonal activities; all with an aim to encourage students to learn to focus the mind with the activity and hopefully restore a busy and active day, improving knowledge, enhancing awareness of a healthy body and mind, developing resilience, reducing stress and remembering the importance of the present moment through wellbeing.

There is a strong link between wellbeing and academic achievement which at Connie Rothman we are focussing on encouraging thriving, happy students both socially and academically.
